- Dangote asserts his refinery’s petrol quality matches global standards, including the US, ensuring smooth engine performance
- Refinery in final stages of discussions with NNPCL to make petrol available in the market, contributing to economic growth
Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has asserted that the quality of petrol produced by his refinery will be on par with the best globally, including that from the United States.
On Tuesday, Dangote Refinery began producing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from its 650,000 barrels per day facility in Lagos. The refinery started operations last December with a capacity of 350,000 barrels per day.
In a press briefing, Dangote emphasized that the petrol from his refinery would meet high international standards, ensuring that vehicles run smoothly without the engine issues often caused by lower-quality fuels.
“The quality here will match that of anywhere in the world, including the US. We will ensure that our product is unmatched in terms of quality,” Dangote stated.
He also noted that the refinery is in the final stages of discussions with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), after which the petrol will be available in the market.
Dangote highlighted the refinery’s broader economic benefits, including contributing to industrial and manufacturing growth, reducing import dependence, saving foreign exchange, stabilizing the naira, and helping to curb inflation and living costs.
The Dangote Refinery, which faced initial regulatory challenges, aims to reach its full production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day by the end of the year. In addition to petrol, the facility has already started supplying diesel and aviation fuel.
