- Afunaya has been reassigned to an undisclosed role within the agency
The State Security Service (SSS), also known as the Department of State Services (DSS), has redeployed its spokesperson, Peter Afunaya, just a week after Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi became the new Director-General.
Mr. Ajayi, who assumed office on August 28, confirmed the move during a press briefing at the SSS headquarters in Abuja. Afunaya has been reassigned to an undisclosed role within the agency.
Ajayi did not announce a successor.
Ajayi stated that the agency will focus more on covert operations, though he assured that public engagement will continue as necessary.
Premium Times reports it is unclear whether the spokesperson role will be filled temporarily.
Afunaya, who has served as spokesperson for a decade, expressed gratitude and reaffirmed his dedication to the SSS and the nation in any future role. In a post on X, he said, “Beginnings also end. It’s goodbye, good night, and yet a good morning. I remain a Nigerian with love, loyalty, honor, and glory. So, help me God.”
