Two employees of an Ondo State hotel (name withheld) have been arraigned by the Nigeria Police over the alleged theft of N1.1 million.

The defendants, Tayo Abosede, a cleaner, and Yeye Omosuyi, the assistant manager, both aged 30, were brought before the Ondo State Magistrates Court in Okitipupa on Friday, facing two charges.

According to the Police prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, the accused, along with three others still at large, conspired to commit the theft on July 1 at around 10:30 a.m. at No. 10, Oluwatuyi Street, Okitipupa.

Orogbemi explained that the defendants allegedly stole an Ecobank ATM card belonging to Folayemi Igbayemin and used it to transfer N1.1 million through a POS operator to an Ecobank account held by Omosuyi. The offences, he added, violate Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate Philip Akinlosetu granted them bail, setting the sum at N500,000 each, along with two sureties of the same amount. The case was adjourned to September 12th, 2024, for further hearing.
