Killings: Tinubu must take bold steps to tackle insecurity, fix ‘failing’ security architecture – Peter Obi

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi has voiced his displeasure over the perennial wanton killings of innocent Nigerians by armed non-state actors.

He noted that the continuous killings, maiming, and displacement of innocent Nigerians underscored  the nation’s current security architecture deficiencies and failings.

Obi was reacting to the unconscionable killing of several people in Mafia village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.

According to him, to stop this endless killings and other criminal activities, the government must acknowledge the parlous and troubling situation and take decisive actions by declaring war on insecurity before it consumes the country completely.

Obi in a post on his X handle on Saturday said the heinous act of violence is a stark reminder of the gravity of the nation’s security situation.

He said: “Again, I am very saddened by yet another devastating news of the horrific killing of several innocent people in Mafia Village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.

“This heinous act of violence is a stark reminder of the gravity of our security situation and the urgent need for a paradigm shift in our approach to the challenge.

“The relentless killings, maiming, and displacement of innocent Nigerians are a clear indication that our current security architecture is failing.

“We must acknowledge this reality and take bold steps, as I have always maintained, by declaring war on insecurity before it consumes us completely.”
