  • FCT Police arrest man for attempting to bribe officers with N1.5 million to secure release of detained Shi’ite member
  • Suspects linked to murder of two police officers during Shi’ite attack in Abuja, to be charged to court

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested a man, Alhaji Shuaibu Shugaba Dass, for allegedly attempting to bribe police officers with N1.5 million in cash to secure the release of a detained member of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as the Shi’ites. The detained member, Abdulkareem Ahmed, is currently in police custody.

FCT Police Commissioner CP Benneth Igweh disclosed the arrest while addressing newsmen at the police command in Abuja on Monday. He stated that the suspect, who resides in Durumi 1, Abuja, was apprehended on September 5, 2024, at around 2 p.m.

According to the police commissioner, Alhaji Shugaba Dass approached police operatives with the money in an attempt to facilitate the release of Abdulkareem Ahmed, described as a significant member and financier of the proscribed Shi’ites group in the FCT. The arrest was carried out by officers from the State Intelligence Department, led by ACP Mohammed Suleiman Baba.

Commissioner Igweh further revealed that both suspects are connected to the murder of two police officers, ASP Innocent Agabi and Inspector Alexander Odey, during an attack by Shi’ites members at the Wuse market junction in Abuja on Sunday, August 25, 2024. The attack also resulted in injuries to three other officers.
