Vice-President Kashim Shettima visited Maiduguri on Tuesday to offer support to the people of Borno following the Alau dam flood, which displaced thousands of residents.

Leading a federal government delegation, Shettima was welcomed by Governor Babagana Zulum, who took him to the palace of the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi, one of the many locations affected by the disaster.

The vice-president also visited Bakassi camp, where thousands of flood victims have taken refuge. Addressing the displaced residents, Shettima assured them that the federal government would provide 50 trucks of rice to alleviate their suffering.

He also promised swift action, stating that the government would collaborate with the North-East Development Commission and other agencies to ensure the victims spend no more than two weeks at the camp.

Maiduguri residents woke up on Tuesday to severe floods that inundated homes, roads, and bridges across the city.
