- On Wednesday, the PDP said it might not sign the peace accord.
- Obaseki alleged that the Police had shown that they were acting in the interest of the APC and waging war against the PDP.
The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has announced its intention to pull out of the peace agreement.
The traditional peace accord signing ceremony is set to take place today, ahead of the governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.
At a press conference on Thursday, Jarrett Tenebe, chairman of the APC in Edo, explained that the party’s decision is a result of the police’s failure to apprehend members of the opposing party responsible for attacking their supporters.
“It has become imperative for our party, the All Progressives Congress to tell Nigerians why we are not predisposed to be a signatory to Peace Accord,” the Edo APC chairman said.
“Two months ago, the former Edo State Police Commissioner, CP Funsho Adegboye, revealed that the police had identified the perpetrators of Inspector Onuh Akor’s murder at the Benin airport.”
“Terror was unleashed on APC supporters at the airport by members of the Edo State Security Network, resulting in the death of Inspector Akor, who was present to receive the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, and the APC Governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, upon their return from Abuja.”
Tenebe lamented, “It is disheartening to note that over two months have passed since this heinous incident occurred.”
The APC chairman accused Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki of harboring thugs involved in the recent attack, alleging they have been granted refuge in Government House.
He also expressed dismay that, despite knowing the identities of the perpetrators, the police have yet to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the unprovoked attack.
