Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing nursing education in the state.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Suleiman Olanrewaju, the governor, represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal, made the remarks during a meeting with the accreditation team from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria at the Ministry of Justice in Ibadan.
Makinde stressed that education is a key component of his administration’s Omituntun 2.0 Sustainable Development Agenda, adding that efforts to improve the sector will continue. “Nursing education should not be undervalued as it plays a critical role in preparing skilled nurses for the healthcare sector,” he said. The governor also pledged more infrastructure, resources, and staff to boost nursing education in health-related institutions across the state.

The Chief Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Farouk Abubarka, who led the accreditation team, said the visit aimed to assess resources in nursing schools across Ibadan, Kisi, and Oyo. He praised Nigerian-trained nurses as among the best globally and reaffirmed the council’s dedication to maintaining high standards in the training of qualified healthcare professionals.
Also in attendance were key state officials, including the Commissioners for Education, Justice, and Health, as well as the Provosts of the College of Nursing Sciences and the College of Health Science and Technology.
