Lawmaker’s Wife Under Fire For ‘Empowering’ Youths With Sugarcane

Criticism for Tokenism: PRP Challenges Empowerment Initiatives by Bauchi Lawmaker's Wife

Empowering Youths With Sugarcane

Hajiya Fatima Aliyu Aminu Garu, the wife of Hon. Aliyu Aminu Garu, who represents Bauchi Federal Constituency, has faced criticism for allegedly distributing sugarcane sticks to some youths as an empowerment initiative.

The Bauchi State Chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) expressed disappointment over the initiative. In a statement, Abdulazeez Haruna, the State Secretary of the PRP, said, “This gesture falls short of the expected standard of representation for the good people of Bauchi Federal Constituency.”

The PRP emphasized that true representation should go beyond “tokenism” and selective empowerment programs, urging that the people of Bauchi deserve meaningful developmental initiatives that address their pressing needs.

The party further demanded that Hon. Aliyu Garu account for his actions in the National Assembly, asking for clarity on the bills he has sponsored and the concrete projects he has initiated to benefit the constituents.

“We urge Hon. Aliyu Garu to demonstrate his commitment to serving the people by working towards tangible benefits that transcend tokenism and handouts,” Haruna added. He also called on the people of Bauchi Local Government Area to hold their representative accountable for his actions or lack thereof.
