Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has bemoaned the effect of the devastating flood that ravage Maiduguri, the state capital.
This is even as he expressed worry over the impact of the flood on prisons, saying some Boko Haram leaders being held in correctional facilities may have escaped.
He made this known in an interview with the BBC.
Recall that Maiduguri and some neighbouring towns were ravaged by flood caused by the overflow of the Ngadda River.
Properties worth millions of naira and lives have been lost due to the heavy flooding.
There were also reports that some prison inmates were evacuated and that some of them escaped due to the flooding.
Zulum said in the interview, “I’m worried, yes, I’m seriously worried. But you also have to bear in mind that the Borno State Government has established what we call the Borno Model of Rehabilitation which has allowed many insurgents to repent.
“Within the last two years, over 200,000 Boko Haram members and their families have repented and I think, this has also yielded positive results in ensuring the return of peace and stability to Borno State.”
