- He confessed to luring his victim on September 4 by drugging her drink with codeine, then strangling her to death in a nearby bush
The Kogi State Police Command has released further details about the arrest of 21-year-old Jeremiah Awe, who is accused of abducting and murdering 17-year-old Damilola Oluwoyo, a student at Federal University Lokoja.
According to a statement by the police, Awe confessed to luring his victim on September 4 by drugging her drink with codeine, then strangling her to death in a nearby bush.
He allegedly mutilated her body, removing organs including her eyes, lung, liver, tongue, and intestines.
Awe then demanded a ransom from the victim’s father, Stephen Oluwoyo, who sent N400,000 unaware that his daughter was already dead.
The police said they arrested Awe on September 11, with the help of the Technical Intelligence Unit from the Force Headquarters, and recovered the victim’s body from a bush near his lodge.
Three other suspects, Barnabas Olugbenga, 20; Ajani Ayomide, 20; and Emmanuel Otitoju, 24, were also arrested in connection with the crime. Two of them are friends of Awe who allegedly aided in the commission of the crime.
The case has sparked widespread outrage and concern about the safety of students in Nigeria.”
