The federal government has inaugurated a 16-member committee to address consequential salary adjustments following the approval of a new National Minimum Wage Act in 2024, raising the minimum wage to N70,000. This was announced during a ceremony led by Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.
President Tinubu approved the wage increase on July 18, 2024, raising the federal minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000. As part of the Minimum Wage Amendment Act, the wage is set to be reviewed again in three years, rather than the typical five-year interval.
Walson-Jack emphasized that this increase is part of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to improve the economic well-being of Nigerian workers. She stated that this adjustment is expected to boost worker morale and productivity.
The committee will ensure fair and equitable salary adjustments for other categories of federal civil servants to align with the new minimum wage, which represents a 133.33% increase.
