Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has clarified his stance on potentially becoming vice-president in 2027.

He stated that he never made such a declaration.

In an interview with News Central Television, Obi allegedly expressed willingness to consider a vice-presidential role if he found a superior candidate.

However, Obi countered this claim on his X page, asserting that “some fifth columnists resorted to propaganda, deliberately distorting the narrative.”

The former Anambra governor expressed surprise at the misrepresentation of his statement, emphasizing he’s driven by a desire to improve Nigeria, not merely to hold the presidency.

“I’ve received numerous calls and concerns regarding the News Central TV interview,” Obi wrote.

” In that interview, I detailed my position. Regrettably, some have twisted my words. “Let me reiterate: my focus isn’t on 2027 while Nigerians face hunger, poverty, insecurity, and other pressing issues.

“When asked about collaboration, I stressed openness to working with like-minded individuals, provided their goals aren’t self-serving. I emphasized my commitment to partnering with those sharing my vision for Nigeria’s progress and remaining loyal to the Labour Party.

“I won’t compromise on my values; any potential partnerships must prioritize Nigeria’s well-being. As I’ve always said, I’m not desperate for the presidency or any position; I can contribute without holding office.

“In 2027, if I choose to run, it will be with those genuinely committed to Nigeria’s growth. I urge others to outline plans for ensuring education, healthcare, and poverty reduction.

“My statement was clear, and I’m surprised by the misrepresentation. To clarify, I never agreed to be vice-president to anyone; I remain open to collaborating with those dedicated to building a better Nigeria.

“My commitment to Nigeria’s progress remains unwavering, even without holding office, as I’m already contributing. -PO”
