A cholera epidemic has broken out in Nigeria’s north-east State of Adamawa, killing at least four persons.
Thirty six others are currently in various hospitals receiving treatment, local authorities said on Sunday.
The Chairman of Yola-North Local Government Area Mr Jibrin Ibrahim, disclosed the development to newsmen.
Speaking during his visit to the victims at Infectious Disease Centre, IDC, Yola, on Sunday, he said the outbreak was recorded in Alkalawa, Ajiya and Limawa wards in the area.
According to him, some of the patients are responding to treatments and have been stabilised.
“No fewer than 20 victims were reported in the morning but now there are more than 40 cases and four have died.
“A good number of them have been stabilised as they have been receiving attention by the health workers,” he said.
Ibrahim appreciated the immediate response by health workers, the Red Cross and international partners.
