Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has declared that the upcoming Edo State governorship election, scheduled for September 21, will be a critical test for Nigeria’s democracy. Speaking at the grand finale of the PDP campaign rally in Benin, Damagum called on security agencies to maintain professionalism and ensure fairness throughout the election process.

He emphasized that the people of Edo State have embraced the PDP’s candidate and urged security operatives to uphold their responsibilities as taxpayers fund them.

The Chairman of the National Campaign Council for the Edo election, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the election and encouraging citizens to vote in large numbers.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State highlighted the election’s significance, referring to it as an “existential threat” and warning that the state could not afford to reverse the progress made under the PDP administration.

Other key speakers at the event included Bauchi State Governor Bala Muhammed, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who urged voters to remain vigilant in protecting their votes.

PDP governorship candidate Mr. Asue Ighodalo, after receiving the party’s flag, pledged to continue the developmental initiatives established by Governor Obaseki.
