The Enugu State Police Command has intensified efforts to apprehend the killers of Stephen Aniagbo, Chairman of the Ogbete Main Market Traders’ Association, who was shot dead on Sunday evening in a targeted attack.
According to The Whistler, Aniagbo was attacked around 7 pm on Moses Ogbodo Street in the Topland area of Amechi, Enugu.
He was reportedly ambushed by unknown gunmen operating in a Toyota Corolla. The assailants shot him and fled the scene in his blue Toyota Corolla.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident, stating that Aniagbo was rushed to the hospital by officers who responded to the emergency call. However, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival, and his body has since been deposited in the mortuary.
“A preliminary investigation reveals that the unknown armed hoodlums, operating in a Toyota Corolla car, double-crossed and shot the victim, making away with his blue-coloured Toyota Corolla car,” Ndukwe said. He added that a more in-depth investigation has commenced to trace the criminals and recover the stolen vehicle.
Following the tragic event, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered the tactical squads of the command to deploy all available intelligence and operational resources to track down the perpetrators. He stressed that the assailants would be brought to justice swiftly, urging the public to remain calm as the police intensify their search efforts.
In addition, CP Uzuegbu directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding Aniagbo’s murder. He assured that the police would leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of the killers.
“We are committed to ensuring that those responsible for this heinous crime are apprehended and brought to justice. The command has mobilized all necessary resources to track the suspects down, and we appeal to members of the public with any useful information to come forward,” Uzuegbu said.
