  • The Ministry of Petroleum Resources clarifies that the Dangote Group’s abandonment of the 1,200km subsea gas pipeline project was a pre-Tinubu business decision
  • The government remains committed to fostering investment in the gas sector, despite claims linking the project’s abandonment to recent policies

The Ministry of Petroleum Resources (Gas) has clarified that government policy was not responsible for the Dangote Group’s decision to abandon its proposed 1,200km subsea gas pipeline project.

In a statement signed by the Spokesperson for the Minister of Petroleum Resources (Gas), Louis Ibah, the ministry explained that the decision was made long before the start of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“The Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, has been made aware of a recent statement from the Dangote Group’s VP of Oil and Gas regarding the abandonment of the gas pipeline project due to government policies. However, it is important to note that this was a business decision made prior to the Tinubu administration,” Ibah said.

The statement further emphasized that the federal government, under President Tinubu, remains committed to fostering an environment that supports and encourages investments in the gas sector.
