Lagos Orders Evacuation of Police Barracks Over Potential Collapse

Emergency Evacuation Ordered at Mopol 20 Barracks Over Collapse Fears, Lagos Government to Demolish Affected Structures

LASEMA

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has ordered the emergency evacuation of Block 3 at the Mopol 20 Barracks in Onigbongbo, Ikeja, due to concerns of an imminent collapse.

LASEMA announced that the affected building and nearby structures would be cleared immediately to prevent potential loss of life or property. Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary, confirmed on Wednesday that an assessment revealed an urgent need for evacuation to avert a disaster.

“The agency dispatched a response team to the location, and their findings indicate that the building and adjacent structures must be evacuated without delay. Our response plan includes a thorough assessment, safe and orderly evacuation, and controlled demolition,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

The government will proceed with the demolition to mitigate risks under the direction of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. The public has been urged to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation about the situation on social media.
