A total of 828,284 candidates in Nigeria have passed the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE), scoring five credits or more, including Mathematics and English Language.
The National Examination Council (NECO) announced the results, revealing a 60.55% pass rate.
NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantana Wushishi, disclosed the figures at the Council’s Headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
“The number of candidates who scored five credits and above, irrespective of English Language and Mathematics, stands at 1,147,597, representing 83.90%,” Prof. Wushishi said.
He noted a 30.1% reduction in malpractice cases, with 8,437 candidates involved.
Abia State topped the rankings, with 83.40% of candidates scoring five credits or more, including Mathematics and English Language. Katsina State recorded the lowest pass rate, at 2.42%.
The results also showed 2,267 candidates with special needs.
Forty schools were implicated in mass cheating across 17 states, with 21 supervisors recommended for blacklisting.
NECO’s announcement comes amid ongoing efforts to improve Nigeria’s education sector.
