- The governor acknowledged the significance of the grand finale rally
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will secure victory in the state’s local government elections scheduled for Saturday, in what he assures will be a free and fair contest.
Speaking on Thursday at the grand finale rally held at Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square in Owerri, the governor reaffirmed the commitment of the State Independent Electoral Commission to conduct transparent elections.
At the event, APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, presented the party’s flag to the 27 Chairmanship and 305 Ward Councillorship candidates, emphasizing their role as critical contributors to the foundation of society. “Although it is called local government, you are not local—you are foundation builders,” Ganduje said.
A statement from Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the Governor, Oguwike Nwachuku, noted that Governor Uzodimma expressed confidence in APC’s chances at the polls, citing the candidates’ popularity in their communities. He emphasized that while the primaries may not have been fully transparent, the candidates have proven their appeal through grassroots support.
The governor acknowledged the significance of the grand finale rally, saying it was a show of solidarity and a boost for the campaigns being run by the candidates in their respective localities.
However, Uzodimma lamented the delays in holding the local government elections, which had been postponed since 2021 due to insecurity and banditry. He assured voters that the election would be conducted fairly and transparently, and urged those opposed to the current Local Government Council to participate in the democratic process by voting for their preferred candidates.
Despite the challenges, Uzodimma expressed confidence that residents of Imo State would back the APC in the upcoming elections.
