Nigeria’s Super Eagles have retained their 39th position in the latest FIFA rankings, following a strong start in their 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign.

Despite a recent drop from 38th due to disappointing performances, including four straight losses under former coaches Jose Peseiro and Findi George, the team is improving. Under interim coach Augustine Eguavoen, the three-time African champions secured a 3-0 win against Benin and drew 0-0 with Rwanda in Kigali.

However, the Super Eagles have slipped to sixth in the African rankings. While maintaining a strong position, they now trail other top African teams.

FIFA’s official social media confirmed that all teams in the top 10 globally have held their positions, while some nations made significant gains. Among African teams, Algeria moved up five places to 41st, while Congo and Burkina Faso also climbed the rankings.

Meanwhile, teams like Cameroon (53rd), South Africa (59th), and Ghana (70th) have dropped in the global standings.

As the Super Eagles continue their search for a new head coach, they lead Group D in the AFCON qualifiers with four points from two matches. Their next game will be against Libya in the upcoming qualifiers.
