The Borno State Government has announced that N12.554 billion in donations have been raised to support victims of the recent flood that devastated parts of the state.
Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Umara Zulum, shared this update in a statement. He noted, however, that not all pledged funds have been credited to the Maiduguri Relief Fund opened by the state government.
He stated, “Details of redeemed pledges and material support will be announced in due course.”
Donations came from corporate entities, state governments, National Assembly members, individuals, and NGOs. In addition to cash donations, foodstuffs, clothing, and beddings worth millions of naira were contributed.
Key Donors
Among the state donors are Bauchi State (N250m), Kebbi State (N200m), and Adamawa State (N50m). Other significant state contributions came from Yobe (N100m), Kano (N100m), Gombe (N100m), Taraba (N100m), Katsina (N100m), Kaduna (N100m), Niger (N250m), and Zamfara (N100m).
Notable individual donors include Alhaji Aliko Dangote (N2bn, with N1bn donated to NEMA), Alhaji Aminu Dantata (N1.5bn), Alhaji Mohammed Indimi (N1bn), and Alhaji Dahiru Mangal (N100m). Other significant contributions came from former President Muhammadu Buhari (N20m), Atiku Abubakar (N100m), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso/NNPP (N50m), and Peter Obi (N50m).
Several institutions also contributed, such as the North East Development Commission (N3bn), Nigerian Senate (N54.5m), House of Representatives (N100m), and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) (N25m).
Material Support
Apart from financial contributions, individuals and organizations donated essential items like food, clothing, and bedding. The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, also contributed N500m towards relief efforts.
The Borno State Government is still awaiting the full redemption of pledges and will release further details as the funds and material donations are received.
