- The APC candidate had earlier defeated Godwin Obaseki, Edo governor, in his LGA.

Monday Okpebholo, candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has been declared the winner of the Edo governorship election.
Faruk Adamu Kuta, returning officer for the state, announced the result of the election on Sunday evening.
“That Okpebholo Monday of APC having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Faruk Kuta said.
The APC candidate won 11 LGAs while the ruling party secured victory in 7 LGAs.
Okpebholo polled 291,667 votes while Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who garnered 247,274 votes
Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) placed a distant third with 22,763 votes.
