Flood: Zulum Constitutes Panel To Disburse Fund, Lists EFCC, DSS, Others As Members

Borno State Launches Relief Committee for Flood Victims, Ensuring Transparency and Community Involvement in Aid Distribution

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has set up a committee to manage the disbursement of relief funds and items for victims of the recent flood disaster.

According to a statement by Hon. Bukar Tijjani, Secretary to the State Government, the committee includes representatives from key agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure transparency in the process.

Engr leads the committee. Baba Bukar Gujubawu as Chairman, and Prof. Ibrahim Umara from the University of Maiduguri as Co-Chairman. Other members include representatives from the Nigerian Police, Army, NSCDC, North-East Development Commission (NEDC), and various ministries like Youth Development and Women Affairs.

The committee also includes Civil Society Organisations, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), religious groups like Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), humanitarian partners, and the Shehu of Borno.

Governor Zulum stressed the need for transparency and dedication from the committee members as they work to support the flood-affected communities. Several organizations and individuals have contributed billions of naira and food and non-food items for the relief effort.

The distribution of donated items and cash to the flood victims begins today.
