Traditional rulers from the Niger Delta have pledged their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to promote peace, security, and development in the region. The commitment was expressed during a stakeholders’ meeting held by the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) in Warri.
HRM King Justice F. F. Tabai of Tuomo Kingdom and other royal fathers voiced their optimism about the president’s plans for the Niger Delta. They believe that Tinubu’s initiatives will benefit the local communities significantly.
The PAP’s Special Assistant on Media, Mr Igoniko Oduma, stated that the meeting was centred around the theme “Working Together for Sustainable Peace, Security, Stability, and Development in the Niger Delta.” The traditional leaders emphasized their crucial role in maintaining stability in the area.
King Tabai expressed gratitude for the president appointing a competent leader for the PAP and assured that they would fully support Tinubu’s administration. “We will do everything necessary to ensure that Mr. President succeeds. Our communities stand to gain from his plans,” he stated.
The monarchs also praised Dr. Dennis Otuaro, the newly appointed PAP Administrator, recognizing his ability to lead the program effectively. They encouraged him to broaden educational opportunities and vocational training, acknowledging the positive impact these programs could have on the people.
In his address, Otuaro appreciated the traditional rulers’ support of the president’s agenda. He stressed that their involvement is essential for the region’s progress. He reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to key infrastructure projects like the East-West Road and the Coastal Road.
Otuaro also shared plans to launch a scholarship scheme for 500 beneficiaries and empower 1,000 youths and women in various trades. “Our focus is on serving the people. With strong backing from the President and the National Security Adviser, we are determined to improve the socio-economic well-being of the Niger Delta,” he concluded.
