The Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan Archdiocese, Most Rev. Gabriel Abegunrin, has called on the Federal Government to permit Dangote Refinery to sell petrol directly to marketers.
He made this statement during a press briefing in Ibadan on Wednesday, marking his 75th birthday.
Abegunrin suggested that allowing Aliko Dangote, owner of Dangote Refinery, to set petrol prices and sell directly to marketers would help reduce consumers’ fuel costs.
He argued that this would be more effective than relying on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
In addition to his comments on fuel, the Archbishop urged all levels of government to prioritize the security of lives and property.
He also encouraged Nigerian youth to turn away from vices and pursue self-employment opportunities through skills development.
“There are jobs available, but youths can also use their skills to work, farm, and create opportunities for themselves,” Abegunrin said.
Rev. Fr. Richard Omolade, a priest from the diocese, also spoke at the event, praising Abegunrin for his dedication to the Catholic Church and his service to the people of Oyo State and Nigeria.
He described the Archbishop as a role model, especially for the youth, and highlighted his commitment to guiding them in the right path.
Fr. Omolade further acknowledged the contributions of Abegunrin’s predecessor, Most Rev. Felix Job, for his leadership in advancing the church to its current status.
