Edo Guber: Akpata Vows to Contest Again

Olumide Akpata Commits to Future Edo Governorship Bid, Addresses Election Challenges and Vows to Improve State Governance

Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the recent Edo State governorship election, has vowed to run again for the state’s top position.

During an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Akpata reiterated his commitment to continue his political journey despite the election’s outcome.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner.

Akpata highlighted issues like vote buying, voter apathy, and violence during the election. He stressed that his mission is to fix Edo State and Nigeria, and that his political involvement will go beyond a single election.

“I have said it many times: we are here to fix Nigeria and Edo State. I joined hands with others who share the same vision to make this happen. I want to tell my grandchildren that I stood up during these difficult times. It will take more than one election,” he said.

When asked about challenging the election result in court, Akpata said the decision would be made collectively with the Labour Party. “As someone within the justice sector, I benefit from seeing this from the inside.

I will meet with my lawyers, and the Labour Party will do the same, and then we’ll decide whether or not to challenge the election result,” he added.
