Women from various local government areas in the Niger Delta region have denounced the planned October 1 protest against the country’s economic hardship.
At an event in Warri, organized by the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) under the theme “Niger Delta Women: Empowerment as a Panacea for Peace, Stability, and Economic Growth,” the women voiced their opposition. They urged their children and community members to steer clear of the protest.
The women, representing different ethnic groups in the oil-rich region, called on Nigerians to give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration a chance to address the country’s challenges. They expressed gratitude for the government’s efforts in supporting women and youth in the region.
“When the right people are appointed to the right positions, we will see positive results,” they said.
Madam Beauty Warejuowei, a key woman leader in the Niger Delta, urged women to “stand firm and make the best use of the opportunities provided by the authorities” for growth and development.
