Police nab 4 for car theft in Edo

Ine Edo State, four persons have been apprehended for alleged car theft, the police have said.

The car, Toyota Highlander, was stolen at gunpoint by the suspects who operated with a motorcycle.

Commissioner of Police, Nemi Edwin-Iwo, made this known to newsmen on Friday in Benin City.

Edwin-Iwo said three of the suspects, Ifeanyi Okpara, 26, Dennis Okosun, 25, and Edwin Iruogbe, 27, snatched the SUV vehicle with registration number RBC 66 AQ, at Ekpoma, Edo State.

According to him, the fourth suspect, Shehu Ismail, 25, bought the vehicle from the car snatchers for N1.5 million.

He disclosed that the owner of the vehicle, Iwologbe Rapheal, of Judges Quarters, Ekpoma, reported the car theft to police on August 23, 2024, at about 8:30 pm.

“On the strength of this complaint, operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, through painstaking tech-driven investigation, recovered the snatched vehicle and arrested all the suspects involved,” he said.

Other items recovered from the suspects included a locally made pistol with two live cartridges.

He said all the suspects have confessed to the crime and will soon be charged in court
