Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, especially within the civil service.

He made the statement on Thursday during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed permanent secretaries in the state.

The governor urged the new appointees to introduce innovative ideas to enhance the civil service, emphasising that their appointments were based on merit and a history of unblemished service.

“I expect you to bring your wealth of experience to bear in diligently and dispassionately discharging your responsibilities. Remember that this administration operates on a zero-tolerance level for corruption,” he said.

Governor Aliyu also stressed the importance of ethical conduct and due process, noting that as accounting officers, the permanent secretaries must uphold these principles at all times. He further called on them to prioritise punctuality, dedication, and commitment to duty.

Highlighting the administration’s support for the workforce, Aliyu pointed out that salaries have been paid promptly, and additional gestures, such as half salaries and Sallah gifts for state and local government staff as well as pensioners, have been extended.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. The workers are expected to reciprocate these invaluable gestures by being more dedicated and committed,” he added.

The governor described civil servants as crucial players in the implementation of his administration’s Nine-point Smart Agenda and assured them of his continued commitment to addressing their welfare and entitlements.
