The Anambra State Police Command says its operatives have neutralised a suspected gunman during a shootout in the Igbo Ukwu/Ezinifite Uga area of Aguata Local Government Area.

In a statement released on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the incident occurred at around 11:30 pm on Sunday during a routine patrol.

Ikenga explained that the police encountered a group of armed men driving a black Prado Jeep. When challenged, the suspects opened fire on the police but were overpowered, resulting in one casualty among the gunmen, while the rest managed to escape.

“Upon engaging the suspects, the police killed one of the miscreants, and others fled the scene,” Ikenga said.

Recovered items included two AK-47 rifles, a pump-action gun, 15 live cartridges, armoured vests, and various criminal charms.

Ikenga added that a black Prado Jeep, used by the suspects, was seized, and a clearance operation is currently underway in the area. Further details are expected as investigations continue.
