The Enugu state governor, Peter Mbah, has officially sworn in 17 newly elected local government chairpersons.
On Monday, following the oath-taking ceremony at Enugu’s government house, Mbah urged the new chairpersons to keep their campaign promises and relocate to their respective council areas to better serve their communities.
Mbah also emphasized supporting his administration’s initiatives, such as innovative schools, rural infrastructure development, and agricultural projects, to tackle youth unemployment and crime.
The governor stated, “I’ve followed your campaigns and our mantra, ‘Tomorrow Is Here.’ This represents immediate problem-solving and innovation.”
Mbah stressed that now is the time for action, not words, and the people expect solutions to long-standing development issues.
He charged the council chairmen to prioritize security, as it’s essential for development, and lead inclusively from their local government areas.
“In Enugu State, we have zero tolerance for crime and insecurity,” Mbah said. “To attract industries and development, you must ensure peace and security.”
Mbah also emphasized delivering basic amenities, thinking creatively to solve sectoral challenges, generating wealth, and creating employment.
However, he noted that this cannot be achieved remotely; chairpersons must be present in their local governments.
Hon. Obiora Obeagu, LG Chairman of Isi-Uzo, praised the Mbah Administration for undertaking local government projects and providing financial support.
