A man has been apprehended in Adamawa State for climbing a 33KV high tension electricity pole to demand the resignation of President Bola Tinubu.

The unnamed man was arrested by the Police in the north-east state over the incident which occurred in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area.

The man was said to have refused to descend from the pole, saying he would only come down when Tinubu steps down as president.

It’s gathered that the incident happened between the morning of Friday September 27 and evening of Saturday, September 28.

BEYOND THE BALLOT: After over 20 opposition figures defected to APC, is Nigeria turning into a one-party state?

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguruje, confirmed the incident.

According to him, the man, whose identity is not disclosed, was rescued on Saturday night and now in police detention.

He also said the man would be paraded and also arraigned before a court for attempted suicide.

“The Command is going to parade the man today (Monday) for attempting suicide,” Nguroje said, adding that attempting suicide is a criminal offence under Nigeria’s constitution.

“We are going to charge him to court,” Nguroje asserted.

He explained that the Police has a duty to protect lives and property and that when any individual attempts to take his life, the individual has to be made to face the law.

It is gathered that the man had on Friday morning, the market day of Mayo Belwa, climbed the 33KV high tension pole along the Yola-Jalingo highway.

The man, who ostensibly embarked on the risky exercise in protest of the hardship in the country, had insisted on Tinubu’s resignation.

The state Police Command had to get some locals to prevail on him to descend from the pole. They were able to persuade him to come down on Saturday night and was ultimately arrested by the police.
