The Obidient Movement, under the Labour Party (LP), has successfully registered over 22,672,373 voters from seven states in the northwest region of Nigeria. Yunusa Tanko, the movement’s Interim National Coordinator, revealed this during the launch of its advocacy for voter registration in Kano.

Tanko explained that after the 2019 election and the hardships brought on by the APC-led government, several concerned Nigerians came together to form a united front to rescue the country from poor governance. According to him, this collective effort led to the rise of Peter Obi and Yusuf Datti-Baba Ahmad as key figures of integrity to lead what is now known as the Obidient Movement.

He emphasized the unprecedented unity of Nigerians, especially the youth, who rallied behind the movement, crossing ethnic, social, and political lines. Tanko stated that despite the challenges faced by the movement during the 2023 elections, it managed to register 12.5 million supporters within a short period and remains committed to consolidating its efforts.

According to Tanko, the northwest zone, consisting of Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Sokoto states, accounts for a significant portion of Nigeria’s registered voters, with 22,672,373 out of the national total of 96,303,016.

Despite the zone’s voting strength, Tanko pointed out that the region continues to suffer from poor infrastructure, social services, poverty, and insecurity. He called on movement members to address these challenges and ensure a brighter future for future generations.

“So, fellow Obidients, today marks a new chapter in our collective journey as a Nation and our objectives and collective will remain stronger than ever before.”

“Let us work together to check this drift of cluelessness, end this cycle of hardship, and build a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and future generations.

“The registration you are about to make, is for efficient coordination and enhanced impact, not only for the sake of the present, but for the future of our Children, The protection of our Women, The progress of our Men, for our generations unborn and indeed for the future of our Nation,” he added.
