- Mark urged Nigerians to view past shortcomings as lessons for future progress
Former Senate President David Mark has urged Nigerians to reflect on the country’s history, highlighting the need for unity and patriotism to address ongoing challenges.
In a statement released by his Media Adviser, Paul Mumeh, on Tuesday, Mark called for sober reflection in his goodwill message to Nigerians, stressing that despite the nation’s struggles with insecurity, poverty, disease, and underdevelopment, Nigeria is rich in both human and natural resources that can transform its fortunes.
“This transformation is achievable if all citizens are patriotic and united with a common mission and purpose,” he said.
While acknowledging the country’s disappointing situation, Mark urged Nigerians to view past shortcomings as lessons for future progress. “We must learn from our past mistakes and work towards a better future,” he added.
Mark also recalled the 30-month civil war, sporadic ethno-religious conflicts, and political uncertainties, attributing these issues to leadership inadequacies and a failure of citizenship. He cautioned against recent divisive tendencies and inflammatory rhetoric, which, he warned, could worsen the already fragile state of the nation.
