The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his handling of the state’s rising insecurity.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei, noted that Aiyedatiwa’s recent public appearances, where he was seen dancing, showed a lack of empathy for the suffering of the people.
Peretei stated that Aiyedatiwa’s claim that residents are “lucky” is at odds with the harsh reality of the state’s insecurity.
He pointed out that the governor’s demeanor suggests a lack of commitment to addressing the issue.
The PDP cited several incidents, including the July kidnapping and killing of National Youth Service Corps members in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area, and the August murder of Sunday Ayeni by suspected herdsmen in Akoko South West Local Government Area.
Speaking further, the party mentioned the September attack on Sunday Oladele and Lucia Ayelabola by suspected herdsmen in Akure North Local Government Area, resulting in Lucia’s death and Sunday’s severe injuries.
Peretei questioned Aiyedatiwa’s plan to secure the state, suggesting that proactive governors provide necessary resources to combat insecurity.
He also wondered why technology hasn’t been deployed to address the issue, given the significant federal allocations to the state.
The PDP concluded that Ondo State has been “unlucky” under Aiyedatiwa’s leadership due to his inability to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
It’s worth noting that Governor Aiyedatiwa has previously assured residents of his commitment to security in the state.
However, the PDP’s criticism highlights the ongoing concerns about insecurity in Ondo.
