Kano State will host a major workshop on agricultural transformation from October 7-8, 2024. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo will chair the event, which will be attended by around 20 state governors.
The event will also see representatives from 10 African countries, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) headquarters in Jeddah, and leadership from Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) from Tokyo and the USA.
According to SAA Communication Officer Moses Nongoatse, the workshop will focus on the IsDB-funded Kano State Agropastoral Development Project (KSADP).
SAA, in collaboration with IsDB and the Kano State Government, organized the event, which has the theme “Agricultural Transformation and What Works: Reflections from the Crop Value Chain of the Kano State Agropastoral Development Project (KSADP).”
The workshop will showcase the project’s success and encourage discussions on expanding similar efforts to other states.
SAA Nigeria Country Director Dr. Godwin Atser highlighted that the event would present KSADP’s achievements and offer networking opportunities for governors to explore IsDB funding for their agricultural projects.
Over the past three years, KSADP has driven sustainable agricultural growth in Kano through climate-smart agriculture, livestock development, post-harvest loss reduction, poverty alleviation, and infrastructure development.
The two-day event will also include the launch of a large-scale mechanization initiative for Kano’s farmers and presentations on how the state accessed IsDB agricultural development financing.
