Chief Emeka Kalu, Director General of the Global Initiatives For Good Governance, has praised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his recent proposal advocating a rotational presidency in Nigeria.
According to Kalu, this call reflects Atiku’s commitment to democratic fairness and his vision for a united Nigeria.
In a statement, Kalu remarked, “Atiku’s proposal for rotational presidency demonstrates his mental sharpness, democratic selflessness, political maturity, and philosophical balance.
This is not a campaign for his candidacy in 2027 but a reflection of his vision for a better Nigeria.”
As discussions surrounding the 2027 general election gain momentum, Kalu noted that Atiku has been vocal about the need for the 10th National Assembly to amend the constitution to ensure a rotational presidency.
This amendment, he emphasized, would allow each of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to have the opportunity to produce the nation’s president, thus promoting justice and equity.
Kalu added, “If this proposal is actualized, it would be a significant step in Nigeria’s democratic history.
By enshrining rotational presidency in the constitution, each geopolitical zone would have an equal opportunity to lead, addressing long-standing issues of marginalization and poor implementation of federal character principles.”
He further explained that the proposal could help reduce civil unrest, terrorism, and other forms of violence that stem from feelings of injustice and inequality.
By ensuring that all regions of the country have equal access to leadership, Atiku’s vision aims to foster unity, peaceful coexistence, and stronger relationships across tribal lines.
Kalu also referred to his book Atiku Abubakar: The Man for Nigeria, in which he highlights Atiku’s dedication to addressing Nigeria’s challenges, including economic hardship, political inequality, insecurity, and underdevelopment. He emphasized that Atiku’s track record of integrity and experience positions him as a leader committed to liberating Nigeria from its current struggles.
