- Dominic Solanke has been recalled to the England squad for the Nations League matches against Greece and Finland after seven years
- Interim manager Lee Carsley praised Solanke’s recent form at Tottenham, where he has scored in his last three appearances
Dominic Solanke has been recalled to the England squad for their upcoming Nations League matches against Greece and Finland. This marks his return to the national team seven years after earning his only international cap.
Solanke, who joined Tottenham from Bournemouth, has been in strong form. He has scored in his last three games, prompting interim England manager Lee Carsley to give him a spot in the 25-man squad.
However, Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze has been left out of the squad following a slow start to his season. Manchester United’s Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, and Tottenham’s James Maddison are also missing out.
Solanke’s only previous appearance for England was against Brazil in 2017. Carsley praised Solanke’s recent performances, stating, “He did so well at Bournemouth, and now he’s taken that form into Spurs. He’s got a lot of really good attributes that I really like.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s in-form Cole Palmer and Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden return to the squad after missing last month’s games. Palmer, who withdrew from the last England camp due to injury, has been impressive, scoring five goals in his last two games for Chelsea.
Carsley noted the challenge of managing England’s attacking talent, which includes Palmer, Foden, and Bellingham. He explained, “We always look at finding the right balance, which complements who in terms of how we play.”
England will face Greece at Wembley in their Nations League Group B2 match next Thursday before travelling to Helsinki to take on Finland three days later.
