The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Ogun State has announced that it will investigate the alleged assault of a final-year nursing student by a consultant orthopedic surgeon.
The incident, which reportedly took place at Ogun State Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, occurred on September 24, when the consultant, identified as Nurudeen Adekunle, allegedly slapped the student nurse inside the theatre suite.
On Thursday, nurses from the hospital, led by the state chairperson of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Adejoke Bello, staged a protest to express their outrage. Carrying placards with messages such as “End Bullying of Nurses” and “Justice for Nurses, a Must,” the demonstrators called for respect and an end to what they described as workplace harassment.
Speaking to local media, Dr. Festus Adeonwa, secretary of the NMA, confirmed that the association is looking into the matter. “We are investigating the situation to understand what happened,” he said.
