Former leaders of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) and the Movement for Actualization of Dreams of Niger Deltans (MADND) have congratulated Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun on becoming the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
In a statement released by Josiah Oyakonghan, also known as Commander Oyimi 1, the ex-agitators expressed their excitement about the CJN’s commitment to restoring the judiciary’s integrity. They believe her efforts will help rebuild trust in the Nigerian justice system.
“We warmly congratulate Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun on her appointment as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria,” the statement read. “We commend her promise to redeem the judiciary’s damaged reputation.”
The ex-warlords stressed their concern for the judiciary, which they feel has been undermined by its collaboration with influential politicians. These politicians, they claim, are focused on promoting electoral fraud and embezzling public funds, harming the interests of ordinary Nigerians.
“Our judiciary, once the hope of the common man, has become an ally to corrupt politicians,” the statement continued. “The new CJN has a moral duty to uphold justice, order, and dignity. We urge her to be cautious of those politicians who seek to praise her while having questionable governance records and election credibility.”
The group added that a positive shift in Nigeria’s image could occur if the CJN remains steadfast in defending democratic principles. “We are watching closely and hope you will succeed in your role,” they concluded.
