Nasarawa Police Arrest Woman for Alleged Child Theft in Keffi

The suspect who had been claiming to be pregnant, sneaked into the house, took the sleeping child, and hid the baby under a veil before fleeing the scene

The Nasarawa State Police Command is investigating a case of child theft involving a suspect, Khadija Aliyu, who was apprehended in Keffi Local Government Area.

In an interview with PUNCH, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, revealed that Aliyu allegedly pretended to be pregnant and stole a seven-day-old baby during a naming ceremony.

“On September 28, 2024, at about 6:30 p.m., police operatives attached to the Keffi Division arrested Khadija Aliyu for stealing a baby girl during a naming ceremony at a location behind the INEC office in Keffi,” Nansel said.

He explained that Aliyu, who had been claiming to be pregnant, sneaked into the house, took the sleeping child, and hid the baby under a veil before fleeing the scene. The suspect was later arrested, and the Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
