- The statement comes amid ongoing political crisis in Rivers State following last Saturday’s Local Government election
Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, a House of Representatives member, expressed dire concerns about Nigeria’s state on Monday, suggesting the country is on a downward spiral.
Ugochinyere alleged that loyalists of a serving Minister under President Bola Tinubu’s administration were torching government buildings, with law enforcement failing to intervene.
This statement comes amidst the ongoing Rivers State political crisis following Saturday’s Local Government elections.
A section of the Eleme Local Government secretariat was set ablaze shortly after newly-elected chairman Brian Gokpa’s arrival, as reported by WITHIN NIGERIA on Monday.
On his X handle, Ugochinyere warned that Nigeria has previously traversed this path, with devastating consequences.
He said: “Nigeria is finished. Supporters of a serving minister in Tinubu’s government are alleged to be busy burning headquarters of another arm of government and the Police since morning have not stopped them.
“Mr. President, do you know what this means? Nigeria has worked paths like this before and the consequences were enormous.
“Stop the madness these overnight supporters are carrying out. Rivers People and Nigerians are recording all these for you.
“Elected LGA Chairmen have been sworn in and there is nothing these alleged Wike group can do that will change this or remove the democratically elected government of Gov. Fubara from office.”
