Former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, highlighting that his presidency is a collective achievement tied to Yoruba leadership.
Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) South West Zone Assembly meeting in Lagos, Osoba called for unity and continued support for Tinubu, despite any perceived challenges.
“Now that Bola Tinubu is there, I want to plead with all of you to accept his shortcomings. He will do better. After his first four-year term, he will serve another four years as a Yoruba son,” Osoba stated.
He emphasized that the Yoruba leadership stands united behind Tinubu’s presidency and remains confident in his ability to deliver on his promises during his tenure.
Osoba also recounted a key decision made by South West leaders in 2007, which helped transition Tinubu from state politics to the national stage. He explained that Tinubu’s rise to the presidency was a collective effort by the Yoruba leaders, dating back to his time as Lagos State governor.
“Seventeen years ago, in 2007, after his tenure as the governor of Lagos State, we gathered and collectively decided that Bola should move from Lagos politics to the national stage to represent the Yoruba people at the top level of Nigerian politics,” Osoba said.
Reflecting on past struggles, Osoba noted that many Yoruba leaders had worked tirelessly to support national leadership bids by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and MKO Abiola, but they were unsuccessful.
He expressed gratitude that some Yoruba leaders are still alive to witness Tinubu’s success.
