Vice-President Kashim Shettima has launched the “Nutrition 774 Initiative” to combat malnutrition and food insecurity across all 774 local government areas in Nigeria.
Speaking at a roundtable with development partners, he emphasised that the programme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to food security and improved nutritional outcomes.
“Our aspiration as a nation goes beyond the abundance of food in barns. We cannot claim victory unless every household has access to balanced diets essential for a healthy life,” Shettima stated.
He called on development partners to support the initiative, highlighting the need for collaboration. The programme adopts a grassroots-driven approach, training health workers and community leaders to empower local actors in tackling malnutrition.
“The Nutrition 774 Initiative is a mission we must pursue with purpose and passion to ensure a healthy and stable Nigeria,” he noted.
Shettima acknowledged recent challenges like floods and inflation but stressed the need for an innovative response to ensure that every household has access to a balanced diet.
