The Plateau State Police Command has deployed over 8,000 officers to ensure security during today’s elections across 17 local government areas.
Eleven political parties, including the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), are contesting the elections.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred, announced the deployment on Tuesday as officers were dispatched to their designated areas.
He assured the public that police personnel would arrive on time at polling units to ensure a smooth and secure electoral process. “The police are committed to maintaining peace, ensuring voters’ safety, and preventing disruptions,” Alfred said.
He also warned individuals planning to cause trouble that the police have a zero-tolerance policy for electoral violence.
To further enhance security, the police have restricted movement across Plateau State from midnight Tuesday until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Senator Simon Bako Lalong, leader of the APC in Plateau State and representing the Plateau South Senatorial District, expressed confidence in his party’s prospects for victory.
During a Monday visit to QuanPan Local Government, he urged voters to support the APC, emphasizing that the party has consistently delivered its promises to the people. He contrasted this with the PDP’s performance, claiming that the party has little to show after nearly two years in office.
Hon. John Dafaan, representing the QuanPan, Shendam, and Mikang Federal Constituency, echoed Lalong’s views and assured residents that the APC is committed to good governance and infrastructure development.
