Covenant and Landmark Universities, both under the leadership of Nigerian preacher and founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, have topped the rankings of universities in Nigeria according to the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
Covenant University was ranked as the best university in Nigeria, while Landmark University in Omu-Aran, Kwara State, secured the third position.
No fewer than 54 universities from 15 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa participated in the 2025 edition of the rankings.
Among these 54 universities, Nigeria led the pack with 21 institutions featured in the rankings.
Covenant University maintained its position in the THE World Rankings within the 801-1000 band, while holding the top spot in Nigeria.
Following closely were Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU), Landmark University, and the University of Ibadan, which ranked second, third, and fourth in Nigeria, respectively, and fell within the 1001-1200 band globally.
The global rankings featured 2,092 universities from 115 countries, with the University of Oxford holding the top spot for the ninth consecutive year, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University in second and third place, respectively.
The THE rankings, widely recognised as the world’s most comprehensive evaluation of university performance, assess institutions across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.
