An Abakiliki Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of Augustine Nwazunku, former Ebonyi PDP Chairman, and three others in the correctional centre.
The trio includes Obinna Nwachukwu, Njoku Nwagwu, and Ogbonnaya Idika, who allegedly suspended South-East National Vice Chairman Ali Odefa from the party.
They face a five-count charge, including conspiracy, cultism, forgery, impersonation, and carrying offensive weapons.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Odefa’s suspension on October 3 stemmed from alleged anti-party activities.
Senior State Counsel David Njoku stated that the defendants committed the offences on October 2 in Onicha Local Government Area.
Njoku alleged that the defendants forged a letter claiming Odefa’s suspension, contravening Ebonyi State’s Criminal Code Laws.
“They also broke the Ebonyi State Law Prohibiting Secret Cult Activities and Carrying of Offensive Weapons,” he said.
Chief Magistrate Ojemba Isu-Oko denied bail to the defendants, citing lack of jurisdiction.
Isu-Oko ordered their remand until November 18.
