IGP Approves N10 Million Compensation for Families of Officers Killed in Kano Accident

The officers were returning from election duty in Edo State when the accident occurred

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the payment of N10 million each to the families of five police officers who died in a motor accident on the Zaria-Kano Expressway on September 24, 2024.

The officers were returning from election duty in Edo State when the accident occurred.

Eleven officers were also injured in the incident, with eight subsequently discharged and three still receiving medical treatment.

Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced that the IGP approved immediate payments of N2 million each to those still hospitalised and N500,000 to officers who have been discharged.

“The Inspector-General of Police has approved the immediate payment of relief funds to the families of officers involved in the tragic accident while returning from Edo Elections Special Duty to the Kano State Command,” Adejobi said.

The IGP expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to supporting officers and their families in difficult times.
