The Edo Muslim for Equity and Good Governance (EMEGG) has called on the newly elected Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to include Muslims in key positions within his administration.
The group requested that a Muslim be appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG) or Chief of Staff.
Sirajudeen Muhammad, the General Coordinator of EMEGG, highlighted that Muslims in Edo actively supported Okpebholo during the recent election.
Speaking to journalists, Muhammad said the group has long campaigned for fair representation in government, but previous administrations have overlooked their demands.
“Governor-Elect Okpebholo, during his campaign, promised an inclusive government. Now is the time to honour that promise by appointing Muslims to key positions,” Muhammad stated. He added that while Christians have filled the roles of Governor and Deputy Governor, it is only fair and equitable for Muslims to be considered for significant roles, such as SSG, Chief of Staff, and Commissioners.
Muhammad emphasized that the Muslim community in Edo State has qualified and experienced individuals within the APC who can contribute meaningfully to governance.
He believes that their inclusion would not only fulfill campaign promises but also foster confidence in Okpebholo’s leadership and strengthen the APC’s standing.
“Appointing Muslims to these roles will change the governance narrative in Edo State and showcase the Governor’s commitment to inclusivity,” he concluded.
